Black Velvet Manicure

Hello there!

This has been on my list of things-to-post for a good month or so now and I've finally found time to do it!
You've probably seen some velvet manicures floating around the blogosphere (word!) and in magazines, so I thought it would be appropriate to show you how it can be done ultra cheap. I used a standard black polish (Collection 'Liqourice') for the base and bought the flocking from here.

If you would like to see a tutorial for this just click here and feel free to comment on it if I've missed anything or something isn't clear (be kind it's my first tutorial!).
This is a messy manicure, be warned.

So this is the finished look. For some reason, a cheeky piece of glitter got involved in mine and I couldn't get rid of it without ruining the whole thing!
I have to be honest, when I've seen pics of this manicure around I wasn't overly impressed, but in 'real life' it looks pretty damn cool. It's obviously not a manicure you can wear everyday, washing your hair with it isn't going to work. But for a one off I really like it, so much so I didn't want to take it off.

As you can see, little bits of flocking get everywhere, but with a bit of patience these can be removed with a damp cotton ball or a dry brush.

Let me know what you think and if you think you'll try this!

  2. I like it! The flocking is so strange but oddly really appealing! I just wanna touch it.

  3. How does this last on the nail? I'd be pulling and touching it all the time!

    1. I think its more of a one night thing! I doubt you could wash your hair with it on your nails :) the flocking sticks pretty well to the polish though once its dry. It lasted a day with me before I took it off :)
